1) Initiate a Best-Self Discovery process - "What's the path between where I am now and where I want to be?" This helps employees self-reflect and get reflections from peers and other assessments to better understand what drives them, what their strengths are, and then clarify this into a statement for themselves around their potential Unique Ability or Zone of Genius. This is a process that should be returned to and refined periodically as people grow and develop.
2) Creating Personal Development Objectives - This can cover anything from enhancing a strength to improving a skill, knowledge, or behavior. These should be focused on what an individual wants, how they want to improve, and where they see themselves heading. Tracking personal development in the workplace is a key driver of both employee engagement and organizational performance.
3) Building a Culture of Continuous Feedback - The final step is creating an avenue for managers and employees to track performance on objectives and determine if people are working in their Zone of Genius.
