"Buy-In That Sticks: Building System-Wide Culture Through Leadership Commitment and Employee Engagement"
---
Culture isn’t built by grand gestures. It’s built in the daily interactions, and it sticks when leaders visibly champion it. At Houston Methodist, the Office of Culture & Engagement has learned firsthand that system-wide culture only takes hold when executive commitment is consistent, intentional, and embedded into how the organization operates. From ERGs to scholar programs, this session shares what actually works to build a culture where every person feels seen, supported, and able to thrive.

Drawing on real examples and measurable outcomes, attendees will learn how leadership advocacy, smart governance, and disciplined follow-through turn culture initiatives into sustained momentum. The session explores how leaders activate culture through town halls, sponsorship, and hands-on participation—building credibility and accountability along the way.

Through candid lessons learned, this presentation offers practical strategies for overcoming skepticism, maintaining momentum, and integrating new leaders into evolving culture efforts. Concrete examples—including executive meetings, OCE Committees and councils — illustrate how culture work becomes a system-wide priority rather than a side project.

Participants will leave ready to:
-
Secure and sustain executive buy-in, even within complex, matrixed organizations
-
Embed culture work across teams and functions so momentum continues beyond initial enthusiasm
-
Activate visible senior leader sponsorship that drives lasting engagement, credibility, and performance
