Presentation Details

Dan Hereth, Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, has led a comprehensive technology improvement effort that not only modernized agency operations, but also transformed the department's image and culture.

 

Hereth created a culture of innovation and leveraged the agency's new the technical capacity to identify and implement a series of administrative changes that brought value to stakeholders and demonstrated new relevance for an agency that had previously struggled with not only operations, but also its identity.

 

This session will be a moderated conversation with Communications Director John Beard. John will pose questions about Hereth's approach and will delve into what it means for the department, its stakeholders, its employees, and the general public.

  2. Frame your work and roles in terms of service rather than tasks, which is more meaningful and better for engagement.

Speaker Bio:

Secretary Dan Hereth was appointed Secretary of the Department of Safety and Professional Services in August 2022. Secretary Hereth has spent his career in public service. He had previously served as the agency assistant deputy secretary since January 2019. Before that, he served as the Deputy District Director for Congresswoman Gwen Moore since 2007.

 

Hereth is a Watertown, WI native and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a Minor in Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a Master of Arts degree in Human Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.​

 

A dynamic and engaging speaker, Hereth has led transformational change at the Wisconsin agency responsible for construction administration and occupational licensing regulation.
